
UPDATE FEB 25,2012 The swap to 5-speed transmission is done. Runs and sounds great. Now to upgrade some of it's components, like the clutch and diff.
Bought her as a beater. Loved this grocery getter so much I decided to totally do her up. Lights, sounds, performance, appearance. Doing it all. It's a huge job that I don't expect to be finished with until 2015, but I love every bit of it.
The goal is to build the ultimate generation 4 Taurus with the Vulcan engine. The target is 700+ horsepower and at least one car show trophy. All this and she is still the car I get my groceries in. LOL.
I only feed her AMSOIL synthetic oil and minimum 94 octane fuel.

Hey buddy, my summer was great, how about yours? Haven't done much to the car recently. A carbon fibre interior and exterior trim kit and a bunch of regular maintenance stuff. I will be starting the stroker engine build in October. I notice you are changing your gears, that's awesome.
This. Car. Is. Awesome. Have you considered, since you are already putting a rather ridiculous amount of time/money into this, attempting a RWD swap with custom subframes and a custom bellhousing for, say, a T56? That would be truly the ultimate Taurus. Also, as much as you have put into this motor, you might consider a 3.2 SHO v6 for high end power. One reason I say RWD would be good is because it looks like you have an SHO MTX4, which means you will break third gear if you have 700 (or 400, for that matter) horsepower. There were some HD gearsets made, but only something like four of them, and all but one are in use. I, by the way, have one of the few other heavily modded (looks wise) Tauruses out there. (SHOpala)
Hey, thank you. Actually I am sticking with building the 3.0L Vulcan engine. There is a reason for it. I know it isn't the ideal base to build a motor from, but there were so many people that said the Vulcan can not make power. Period. I say it can. Cost not a factor, they just said it can't make power, so I am out to prove them wrong. I have seen people swap the SHO engine, but I have not seen anyone fully build the Vulcan. So that is my mission. Or my mid life crisis. LOL
Fair enough. What are you going to do about shredding your transmission? (Also, see what you think of SHOpala. I think you might like her.)
I will leave the transmission for now, once I am making power and the car is no longer my daily driver, I will get it regeared. – I tried to comment on your ride last night, but this website blocked my comment and said I triggered a spam filter. I'll try again. If it doesn't work, I really like your ride.

Haven't given it a lot of thought yet, but a full rebuild, and yeah, thinking HD gearset.
Alright, cool. You'll also want a Quaife limited slip diff or a Wavetrac torque biasing diff, not just because of the traction benefits but because the stock diff has a nasty habit of ejecting pins and killing transmissions. Also, be warned that some have actually cracked the casing in half when the gears didn't fail first.
Yeah, been searching for an LSD. The tranny actually came from a 1st gen Probe. Quaife does an LSD for the 2.2L turbo, but not the Vulcan mating tranny. The search will continue. Or maybe just have one custom made. Thanks for the tips, I will be taking it pretty easy on her until the entire build is done.
