Ok, so everyone has an opinion. I prefer the convertible because you get the luxury of having the top down and yet you can always put the top up when the weather turns bad. The down side is its not as warm in the winter and there's always a possibility that it could leak. But I guess that's why there's so many different types of cars, because everybody's different. What's your preference?

I have had both. I really enjoyed my convertible. But, there is not a lot of trunk room. When I became a father, the lack of room in the back seat and trunk became an issue. Also, I didn't like the way the roof began to leak in heavy rains as the car got older.
If you live in a climate where there is more sunshine than rain it makes sense to have a convertible but where I live it rains a lot so I'd never get the chance to have the top down. Having said that, on the days that we do get sunshine, it's amazing the number of open topped cars that you see on the road!
Well… actually with some cars you can get a hard top convertible. You usually end up sacrificing trunk space or a back seat for it but you get the protection of a hard top but the ability to take the top off.
I have a friend that has a hard top convertible and he absolutely loves it.
If you own a convertible after so many years usually five. The roof starts to look shabby and needs replacing. I have had a convertible for 38 years and have put 4 tops on it during this time. Now the car does not see any weather so it is virtually not aging the way a daily driver would. Tops can run up to 1000 dollars or more with pads and a new tacking strip. The new tops are cloth and very expensive. If you drive a vert you are going to keep, FIGURE it in. I personally would never be WITHOUT my convertible even though I only drove it less tha 500 miles last year. BenLeoneDetailer

Convertibles are cool but it's the upkeep like paintxpert mentioned that scares me away. And coupes are structurally stronger anyway.

Convertibles are cool, and the girls really seem to like them. I might eventually own one, but for now I stick to hardtops, for several reasons:
As far as owning one, it's great if you can store it and drive it only when it's nice out.
