Death of An Escort
In another thread I had mentioned my father's little black ‚81 Escort. I had remarked that the family was wagering as to whether the engine would rust off the frame before it actually quit running. Well, our little Escort bit the dust yesterday. It has actually bit the dust on several occasions but my father has always managed to revive it. Yesterday he signed the death certificate and had it hauled off. No, the engine did not rust off the frame but, yes, it was still running. My sister was driving the car when the front axle broke right in two. Fortunately, she was not hurt as she was driving less than 10 miles an hour, pulling into my father‘s driveway. Well, at least the Escort died at home.
So long, little Escort, you will be missed.
There are just some years
There are just some years when a love like that has to go down for the sake of driving it. I had a friend that ending up putting down his old 'sort and he actually got really upset over it, it was the first car he taught his kids to drive in.
Poor guy, it stinks when
Poor guy, it stinks when you finally have to admit its not going to be fixable (or at least not smart to do so) and have to let the scrap yard take her. Good that noone got hurt, axles can cause all sorts of issues.
Poor little car. At least
Poor little car. At least it was home with those that loved it. It isn't often that you get a car that runs like that and lasts so long. I'm really glad no one was hurt when the axle broke. That could have been really bad and just shows how the car was taking care of the driver.

Never been much of an Escort fan
But your father's car sounds like it lived a good long life and served the family well. Your sister is very lucky that this happened in the driveway and not traveling down the highway at 60 mph. It's almost like the car was taking care of her until the very end. May it rest in peace.
