We get mud up on the underside of the Escape and its lead to some rust on the hitch. We normally take a file to it before putting in the tow bar, but is there any way to get rid of it and prevent it from coming back?

I imagine if you fully sand off the rust you could use rustoleum or another paint application on it. There are other products out there for rust I just haven't had the pleasure to use any of them.

There are other things that supposedly work too. There are direct pain on products that don't require the removal of the rust, they are supposed to just harden it. They are supposed to make the rust patch even stronger than the metal was.

You could just clear coat what is there to prevent it, or rust preventing paint (previously mentioned), but sanding it, 3 or 4 good coats of paint on it, and you should be set.

POR 15 is meant for these type of things. It's suppose to do a great job. I have the full kit but have yet to use it.
