Do you do any of your own basic work? Oil changes, or brake pads or anything like that? How hard is it to learn and is it worth it financially or do people mostly do it for the love of working on their own car?

My father taught me to do all that stuff myself when I was a younger teen, but I haven't done in a while. It just seems that I never have time lately so I get someone to do it for me.
I could handle an oil change or some new brake pads, but when you start talking about swapping a motor or a tranny out I am calling up my Dad for something like that.
I normally do oil, brakes, and quite a few other things so long as they don't require any unusual or expensive tools. I don't think I'd replace an engine myself, but I suppose I could work my way up t it.
