I've used t-cut on a few occasions when I had minor scratches, or when a panel was faded and needed restoring to it's original color. But claybars scare me a little because of the scuffed patches they can leave.

Do you use clay bars?

Something like Mother's clay is just fine as long as you make sure to use a lubricant with it, and don't scrub. It can really help with getting rid of things like rust contamination, just don't go overboard.

I don't use anything with potential for scuffing without taping off the area. I still would rather use something else without the possibility of scuffs. Taping off the area as close as possible seems to work pretty well though.
