A Knock and a Rattle
For a couple of weeks I've had a squealing sound, like the fan belt was working loose. I couldn't get it done right then, but got it booked in (for tomorrow). Now there is a rattle, real nasty-sounds like the exhaust pipe is knocking. They are separate places, so I don't think that they are related, but I'm having some bad luck lately.

Squealing is definitely
Squealing is definitely most likely to be a worn belt and could easily do some major damage should it break while you are driving, especially to the engine. Depends on which belt though. Sometimes I think our cars know when to break. Cause its just as easy to take care of one thing as two while at the garage already. In everything but costs at least.
Well, I don't know how it
Well, I don't know how it usually works for you but that's the way it always works for me. One thing breaks and then another. It can be a little discouraging at times. I think the worst that ever happened to me was a blown transmission which took 2 years to locate and replace on a Contour just to have the engine go out less than a month later.

Well they are claiming that
Well they are claiming that its not under warranty despite my having a 12 month warranty in my hand, dated October 2007. They want to do $660 of work just on the exhaust, when all that needs to be replaced is a bracket that broke.
It's their ‚policy‘ to replace the ENTIRE exhaust, not just the broken part. Of course it is. It's their ‚policy‘ because it makes the bills bigger.
I'm taking it to a none dealership place tomorrow….
The exhaust system isn't
The exhaust system isn't under warranty? That it crazy!! Did you ask to see this „policy“? I would have talked to the shop supervisor and made them show me this. In a way I can see the policy but if I have a muffler that needs replaced or a loose tailpipe, that is ALL that I want fixed!! I think it is a good move to go elsewhere!
