They are fun and dont get me wrong, nothing is more fun than mudding in a Broc but right now with the way gas prices are would you be getting one or would you be trying to get something that is more affordable. A young friend (19) of mine is getting one himself and he already drives 50+ miles to work each day.

I would definitly be waiting until gas prices drop- if they ever do. I like to go mudding as much as the next person- though I haven't been in years, lol. But when you have kids and bills, sometimes you have to decide which is more important, saving money or having fun.

No, I'd be looking at getting the smallest car that would meet my needs, or else looking at a hybrid. This is pretty much lunacy. If you don't have the need for a vehicle that size, why get it?

I definitely agree with the other posters – with gas prices right now it's just not worth it. I hope you can convince your friend to rethink his purchase because if the economy doesn't ease up soon, he's going to regret it.

I still think many people tend to think the bigger the better, which for many reasons could be the case. Maybe you NEED an SUV for work as your the boss man who takes others out to lunch on a corp. business account. If you really don't need it, just don't get it though.

Ya know, I think that even after the gas prices even out that the SUV will be a thing of the past. It'll be a long time before a lot of people can own a Hybrid SUV. The only place you'll be able to see a SUV of today is at a car collectors show.

Without knowing if this friend needs an SUV I'm not about to judge him. I NEED an SUV. It took me less than a year to beat the crud out of my SC2, which was used when i got it but in good condition. The people who “can't afford” something with better clearance where I live could if they didn't have to pay the garage cost to keep their cars running. I would love to trade up to a hybrid SUV but the startup cost is prohibitive at the moment unless I won one.

I too think that the gas guzzlers of today won't last for long. They are not affordable, and will eventually have to be replaced with something a little more easy on the fuel. The trouble is that many people will hold on to them rather tightly.

My dad had a nice Ford Bronco back around 1987. I was just a teenager at the time and I remember how he griped about it being so hard on gas back then. I'd hate to imagine how much money it would take to fill one up now!

I just can't see someone getting a car like that so young. Those cars are more for the family group, unless he is thinking of hauling around his posse of buds. Even then he would have to ask for gas donations if they were going to out to just cruise.

I wish i had a car at that age too, well I did but it was no where near the good condition that some of the kids now are in. I could have only thought that up in my dreams!
