Rear Middle Seat Belt
Oh I agree with you,
Oh I agree with you, chris. But sometimes it is a matter of if you have the money to do this with. As soon as we can afford it, we plan on getting it fixed.
I can't say I've ever had
I can't say I've ever had a seatbelt stick to that degree. We had one that was touchy after a soda spilled into the mechanism, but it still worked decently as a sometimes belt.
I never had this happen
I never had this happen with a Ford but I did long ago with an old Olds and we just never ended up using the middle seat again. By the time we were going to sell the car it was for the junk lot so we never had it fixed.
Not In A Taurus
I've never had the seat belt stick on me in the Taurus. In my Crown, however, that's another story. I was working with clients with disabilities at the time and was driving a client to work. When we pulled up to her place of employment, I had to get out of the car and walk her inside. The only problem, I was stuck in the car and couldn't get out. I had to drive to my dad's house and he almost had to cut it off. He did find the problem though. There was a penny that had fallen into the seatbelt causing it not to release properly.

Oh my goodness! Nothing
Oh my goodness! Nothing that bad happened with ours, although we did get the belt loosened by tearing it apart! The only thing that strap is good for now is to hold the booster seat in and only because the lap part of the belt is still working, just not the shoulder strap.
You tore your seat belt
You tore your seat belt apart and yet you feel safe putting your child's seat in it? I'll be honest with you, I think that you are taking a very big with your child's safety here. I would recommend that you stop using it, and move the child to the side until you can get it checked.
The middle seat belt isn't
The middle seat belt isn't completely tore up. The lap belt part still works, just not the shoulder strap part. I would never put my child in harm's way, for any reason. If I didn't feel confident it would hold, I wouldn't put the carseat there. I also check the strap every time before I put her in the carseat, to make sure that it is still holding and it is still tight.
Are they separate belts? As
Are they separate belts? As in the lap belt isn't attached to the shoulder belt? Because if one portion isn't working then you can't really be sure the other works and are relying on the belt clip to hold the seat. Have you ever seen any of the crash tests? The forces on a seat and belt are huge at a crash at even 40mph. All that is going on a belt that was tampered with.
Trust me, it is holding. As
Trust me, it is holding. As I said before, I would not ever put my baby in danger. If I didn't think it was safe, I wouldn't use it. We are hoping to be able to trade it in soon anyways- we want something bigger.
Most middle belts work with
Most middle belts work with two separate belts don't they. One for the shoulder and one for the lap. I'm sure if you went on a mudding forum and read about how many truck owners take apart their seat belts you would die. What do you think a dealership would do if you brought in a belt that was sticking? They won't replace it just because you think its not safe unless you do so (well they might but its gonna get you looks and cost).
I can think of plenty of the double belt systems we only used the lap belt on when I was a kid. Never got me into trouble.
Well, that was kind of the
Well, that was kind of the way we looked at it. As long as the lap belt was still working, it would be all right. Now, if both weren't working, that would be another thing all together. I would never try rigging a seat belt for a child. Maybe for me but never a child.

If it isn't functioning
If it isn't functioning properly and you use this belt you need to get it repaired or replaced by an authorized dealer/mechanic. This is a crucial piece of safety equipment and it doesn't make sense not to have it in good working order.
