Ive been having some cooling issues lately. Just the other day I was driving and out of no where the ‘Low Coolant’ light went on. When I got to where I was going I popped the hood and noticed coolant everywhere. I noticed a gash in the upper radiator hose which may have been caused when I hit a bump and it rubbed against one of the pulleys. Anyway I replaced the hose, added more fluids and everything was fine. Now, two later the Low Coolant light is back on, this time I check under the hood and the radiator fluid tank is super low but their isnt any coolant leaking under the car or any visible signs on the engine. I noticed I havent seen the cooling fan running and thought that maybe so much heat is being generated that the radiator is sucking up coolant fast. Is that possible? How do I know if its actually the fan or could it be something else?

Air in the system can cause backflow which may be the issue if the fan is in fact working properly. What you need to do is take the radiator cap off and fill it up, then start the car and let it idle as it reaches temperature and the thermostat begins to open you will see bubbles rise up through the cap and the coolant may even start to gradually overflow from the radiator neck that is fine. Once the thermostat opens completely the coolant level with more than likely go down and you will need to add coolant to fill once again. At this point the fan should come on if it is indeed working. If the fan comes on and you ensure the system is full and air free then shut her off replace the radiator cap and drive the car around for a while to ensure your cooling issues are over. If the fan doesn't come on well then you have a case where the coolant is boiling and overflowing out of the coolant reservoir which is causing your issue. This can only be caused by one of two issues… Either a bad fan or a bad CCRM (Constant Control Relay Module) which is the little box bolted on the inside of the bracket on your coolant reservoir. Easiest way to tell is to jump the fan… if the fan comes on with direct power to the plug then more than likely it is the module causing the problem if not then the fan needs replacing. Good Luck!

Thanks!, I tried bleeding the air out like you mentioned and so far so good. Although my fan never turned on and I think there is still a problem there. I will try jumping it to see if its the fan motor or the CCRM. Thanks again
