Spotlight on Kumeu Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival

(Auckland, NZ) – The Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival has been going on for nearly 19 years now. It’s held just outside Auckland, at a place called Kumeu (pron ‘Kew-mew’), and is definitely on the ‘Westie’ (or ‘red-neck’) end of hot rod automobile shows.

It’s a two day event featuring a swap meet, indoor car show (in the cow sheds), outdoor club displays, live rock music, helicopter rides, merchandise stalls, kids entertainment, car fair and more.

For me though it always represents the first real Summer event and brings out many recently prepared cars, fresh U.S. imports and new builds. So there is always something new to see.

You always get a good showing of Fords (see gallery), there was even a 1915 Model T there one year! Occasionally you see some classic cars and hot rods that you’ve never seen and you don’t even know what it is. See gallery for a car with ‘Bummer’ on the side.

Anyway, it’s a staple part of the New Zealand hot rod scene diet and I can’t wait for the next one.
