(Long Beach, CA) - Round One of the 2012 Formula Drift Pro Championship season got off to a rockin' start on the Streets of Long Beach, California last weekend as the field of 32 cars was eliminated one by one until a champion was crowned. The driver who took home the title at this year's event was none other than Justin "JTP" Pawlak and his Falken Tire Ford Mustang RTR.
The field of 32 was also comprised of fellow Ford Racing driver Vaughn Gittin Jr. driving his Monster Energy Ford Mustang RTR, last season's overall champion Daijiro Yoshihara, Former Japanese D1 champion and Formula Drift rookie Daigo Saito, Rhys Millen, and Chris Forsberg.
Throughout the weekend many drivers who were expected to contend for the title were eliminated one at a time leading up to a rematch from the 2011 Streets of Long Beach event between Daijiro Yoshihara and Justin Pawlak. Yoshihara might have taken home the championship last year, but this weekends victory belonged to Pawlak who drove two great runs to seal the deal and in the process he sent a message to the rest of the field that his 2nd place finish in last year's standings was not a fluke and he is a force to be reckoned with in 2012.
