(London, Ontario Canada) - The Fleetwood Country Cruize-In, now in its 8th year, was attended by thousands of spectators and Ford & Mercury & Lincoln show vehicles. The event raised thousands of dollars for charities.
Steve Plunkett the founder and annual host, uses his own multi-acre estate for the grounds of the car show. Steve has a fairly extensive collection of 47 Cadillac’s ranging from the 1900's and into the ‘20s, ‘30s and 40s and all the way through the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, as well as 18 Non-Cadillac’s.
Steve’s annual Fleetwood Country Cruize-In car show celebrates everything in the automotive industry, he may be a huge fan of Cadillac’s, but he defiantly is a huge fan of the automotive industry as a whole and his show allows every make and model built prior to 1985 to attend, unless you get approval from Steve for 1986 and up vehicles.
The event not only does a lot of good for getting car enthusiasts together from around Canada and the United States and even the World!, but it also raises money for 27 charities, and so far the show has collected over $1.3 million in the past 7 years!
The Fleetwood Country Cruize-In show also continues to be Canada’s Largest car show, drawing over 3,000+ vintage, classic and custom vehicles. What makes this event so great for Ford enthusiasts? Well the show is in its 8th year after its humble beginnings in 2002 with just 60 cars attending and two cases of soda pop!
And then they decided to hold the very first Fleetwood Country Cruize-In back in 2004, the first show started out small, but with some word of mouth and advertising they managed to get some 400 vehicles to attend, and thus began the annual show, with every year it bringing more and more vehicles and spectators. The media attention came as well, in 2009, SPEED TV attended the event and filmed an episode of Car Crazy, from then on the event has garnered International Media attention as well.
Plenty of Cool Fords as well as Mercury’s and Lincoln’s and even One Edsel showed up this year. This year was also the first year for the Double Car Show Day, instead of just having the show on the first Saturday of June 4th, they also continued the show into the Sunday June 5th as well. To make things even cooler the Friday night before the event started a crowd of over 3,000 attended the grounds as The Beach Boys performed live and tickets for their performance went fast!
On the Saturday night, Canada’s own classic rock band, LIGHTHOUSE, performed live at the evening dinner show. The annual Fleetwood Country Cruize-In also draws in some Celebrity guests as well, like Candy Clark and Bo Hopkins from the cult classic movie American Grafitti, as well as the King of the Kustomizer’s George Barris and automotive pioneer colleague Gene Winfield who both had a selection at the car show of some of their vehicles they have been a part of over their legendary careers.
All in all it was an exciting weekend for all, some shining examples from the show included ’69 BOSS 302 Mustang’s, to Mach 1’s to a Hertz Mustang GT-350H and Shelby GT-350 and of course even some Custom ’49 Mercury’s, and a few rare Canadian Mercury Pickup Trucks! A number of Ford Model-Ts and Model-As and a large number of Ford Hot Rods as well, and various Ford-Mercury-Lincoln vehicles spanning from the Model-T days to the 1930s and 1940s and into the 1950s,1960s and 1970s. One single rare example from Edsel also attended, it was a 1959 Edsel Ranger 2-Door Hardtop, sported its Original Paint still!
The end of the weekend there was something for just about everyone, including a large number of Non-Ford makes and models as well, it should definitely be a planned destination for all Ford Fans and automotive enthusiasts. If you plan on attending the event next year be sure to check out the Fleetwood Country Cruize-In’s website for updates on next year’s car show, the assumed date next year will be the first weekend of June as it has always been on this date. Hope to see many more Ford’s and Cool Ford Fans next year!
