(Cerritos, CA) - August 7, 2012 - Motegi Racing is holding a livery design contest on its Facebook page that gives entrants a shot at a grand prize trip for two to Las Vegas for Global Rallycross competition at the end of September.
Facebook users are invited to "Like" Motegi Racing on Facebook where they can "Design this Car," by creating a paint scheme for the in-development Motegi Racing Ford Fiesta show car that is "inspired by rallycross, built for the street." The contest opened this week. ...read more >
"Motegi Racing is involved in rallycross as both a series and athlete sponsor, and a technical supplier for the championship leading team," said Rhett Sander, marketing director for Wheel Pros, the company that owns the Motegi Racing brand. "We wanted to find a way to have our customers join us in the sport and the 'Design this Car' contest invites our fans to take an active role."
The winner will also get his or her design applied to the show car, which is expected to be on display in its near-complete form at the Las Vegas Global Rallycross event September 29, bearing the winning livery design.
"We're looking forward to seeing what our fans come up with and we're just as excited as they are about getting the design put on the full-scale car!" said Sander.
The car itself is being constructed by the factory-backed Olsbergs MSE Ford rallycross team. Olsbergs MSE is a Motegi Racing technical partner that runs cars in the Global Rallycross Championship for Motegi Racing sponsored drivers Brian Deegan and Tanner Foust.
The three-door Fiesta will feature a race-ready body kit, Motegi Racing wheels and technological upgrades that make it a street-legal show car that turns heads. The winning design will be turned over to the experts at Spin Imaging in Long Beach, CA, who will execute the concept.
A sneak peek of the car at X Games at the end of June drew a favorable response. Many fans that saw it in the rallycross pits in downtown Los Angeles asked where they could buy one just like it.
Early reaction to the contest has also been positive with hundreds of would-be car designers completing the online entry form within 24 hours of the contest being posted on Facebook. Social media promotion by Ford Racing and Global Rallycross have helped to drive interest.
The deadline for livery submissions is September 7th. Motegi Racing Facebook fans will be asked to "Like" their favorite designs to help narrow down a shortlist, and a panel of judges will select a winner by September 12th.
