The annual Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) expo is just days away and custom vehicle builders & parts manufacturers are in a mad dash to get their projects ready for the show. For those not in the loop, The SEMA Show is the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world. It draws the industry’s brightest minds and hottest products each year to one place, the Las Vegas Convention Center.
We covered The 2010 SEMA Show last year and after seeing some amazing custom cars & trucks, we fantasized with the idea that one day CoolFords would create its own signature vehicle and have it on display in Vegas. We didn’t expect it to happen so fast but this year with some determination and the right connections we made it happen, well kinda. In the spirit of SEMA we embarked on the very first CoolFords Project Vehicle, a 2012 Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca that would be on display at the 2011 SEMA Show, given the funds to actually build it. For this project we were very excited to partner with RPM-3D, “The Leader in 3D Motorsports Graphics” to take our vision and virtually render it. In typical SEMA fashion our project came down to the wire, with a little over one week before the show we put the pressure on Justin Jacobs and his crew at RPM-3D to come up with a custom design for our 2012 Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca. We are extremely pleased with the results and RPM-3D exceeded our expectations, thanks guys! ...read more >
As part of our partnership I asked Justin Jacobs, CEO of RPM-3D, Inc. to elaborate on the build process and to tell us a little bit more about his company:
We started with a Boss 302 Custom 3D Model from Arte3D, a great 3D artist and modeler. Normally we custom build our own 3D models from scratch, but timeframe and budget constraints did not allow for that, so we setup a licensed model with the help of our own 3D artist "Jeff Strong", who created the render environment and shader settings. We then designed the base BOSS 302 Scheme and took the "CoolFords.com" logo & colors and started rendering out ideas for approval as well as sample camera angles. The BOSS 302 is a well known brand so we did not want to "Re-Invent" the car or the base scheme, but we wanted to provide a custom look specifically for CoolFords.com. We also took into account that some day CoolFords.com may build this actual car, so we designed it in a way that would allow that to easily take place without too much extra expense or work on their end.
